SHORT DESCRIPTION: This presentation will motivate educators to unleash their creative mind, engage students and enhance learning with free Web 2.0 tools such as Glogster, Voicethread, Vokis, and more. Participants will see how a trip in Google Earth or an interactive poster using Glogster can incorporate the Discovery Education Builder Tools to further engage student learning. This session will model ways to integrate the three DE Builders (Writing Prompt, Assignment and Quiz) while differentiating instruction, motivating students and increasing achievement. By the end of the presentation, participants will be eager to explore these tools, anxious to return to their classrooms ready to GLOG ON! and take flight with the Discovery Education Builders.

SHORT DESCRIPTION: Most STEM educators know that it is essential for students to think, problem solve and work independently. The problem comes with HOW do you TEACH a skill? Using certain types of digital media are a great way to help students develop these all important skills. In many cases the key lies not in the use of the media but HOW it is used. This session will focus on best practices for using digital media as a way to produce strong thinkers, problem solvers and independent workers.

TITLE: Do You See What I Mean?: Visual Literacy in a Web 3.0 World

SHORT DESCRIPTION: This presentation is designed for educators who have an interest in integrating Visual Literacy and Web 3.0 tools. Participants will explore the power of Web 3.0 as a means of enhancing the principles of visual literacy. Key data as it relates to Visual Literacy and acquiring and retention of knowledge is presented to form the foundation of the presentation. Specific strategies for locating digital media will be shared with participants. Once equipped with the above, we will look at the various Web 3.0 applications which allow for the collection, presentation, and dissemination of digital media. By the end of the presentation, each participant will understand the impact of visual literacy on the learning process; will be able to produce, and integrate digital media into their curriculum and share via the internet; and will have developed a ‘toolbox’ of resources to use as they integrate Web 3.0 into Visual Literacy.
