SHORT DESCRIPTION: Broad Run maintains a relationship with two sister schools globally. For several years we have sent and received students from Nanjing #12 Middle School (USA High School equivalent) in Nanjing, China and Besselgymnasium (USA High School equivalent) in Minden, Germany. In both cases, students live with host families for the week they are in the country and shadow a student from the host school. Through these programs, the students learn about the host country’s culture and teach other students about their own. Because of these global connections and continued communications through email, the cultural and physical boundaries between our countries continue to shrink. This presentation will look at the ways we maintain our relationship with the schools, and the benefits they bring to all three schools and their students.

SHORT DESCRIPTION: As the date for end of course standardized tests approaches, it is common for schools to do intensive content review with students. Students can become overwhelmed with the review process. One way to liven up and enhance the review is to partner with a school that is teaching the same content and play a review game with them live through a video conference. In this presentation we will share vocabulary review games using videoconferencing. This concept could be replicated with any group of students studying the same content, and speaking (or learning) the same language. Target outcomes include: oral language development, application of key content area vocabulary, team building, and application of problem solving strategies.
