SHORT DESCRIPTION: The World Leadership School’s cohesive student travel and service programs go to the same communities repeatedly in order to engender long-term relationships and more significant service learning opportunities, turning students into life-long “agents of change.” Recognizing that it would be impossible (and environmentally irresponsible) to take every student abroad, WLS has instituted the Global Partnerships program, using e-technologies to bring the world into every classroom. U.S. teachers from all grade levels develop short cross-cultural units which enrich current curricular goals and bring their students into contact with world perspectives in a personal and authentic way. This session will explore the pedagogy and methodologies behind Global Partnership exchanges, and will include a variety of examples of successful partnerships already in place. Attendees will leave the session with unique methods for humanizing global education, encouraging compassionate questioning about global perspectives, and developing students’ capacity to explore the world and its challenges pluralistically.
