SHORT DESCRIPTION: Many individual teachers have interest in global projects, but one or two teachers in each building doesn't create widespread use of global education concepts nor have much impact. This session will focus on the strategies by which a district level leader can work to try to infuse global education activities into the majority of classrooms in a district. Strategies that have worked successfully in several different school districts and in large geographic areas will be shared, as well as efforts that have fallen short of success.

SHORT DESCRIPTION: Globalization has affected all walks of life, governance, culture, public service and administration, economies, and societies. Perhaps one of the most profound impacts of globalization on societies has been the impacts it has had on education. The question is what the effects will be. That is to say, how will globalization affect education worldwide. Advancements in technology and its reach of millions of classrooms worldwide can bring with it a corporate-driven global culture of self-interest, individualistic, and market-based values to billions of children at their prime formative years of life. This globalizing corporate culture of market-based values can be both destructive and instructive to education, as it transforms the curricula and educational systems worldwide. Those able to provide educational leadership and make policies should be mindful of the range of possible effects of the complex interplay between globalization and the use of emerging educational technologies.

SHORT DESCRIPTION: The future of effective leadership by Malcolm Dawes. What are the qualities and competencies that distinguish high-performing leaders from others? Why is leadership so important in an education context? How can we increase our capacity for effective leadership? High performing leaders are distinguished by two qualities – their ability to interact effectively with other people and the ability to think strategically and tactically. In this insightful event session, Malcolm Dawes will share the results of an extensive 10 year study of over 6000 managers – and the implications that this study highlights. A multinational study by dta WORLDWIDE has found that, on average, managers are performing below the level that characterises high-performing leaders. This presentation focuses on key areas to improve your leadership, within all levels of your organisation or business. After Malcolm has shared insights from this research, you will: * Understand the importance of 10 core competencies for leadership * Know the essential qualities to allow you move from management to leadership * Be able to focus on your own strengths to develop the effectiveness of your personal leadership style
